Points of Interest

I am still here. I just don't have anything interesting this week. Unless you consider the following things interesting:

1. Going out like a rock star last Saturday night and posting a facebook status message that I was engaged (I'm most definitely NOT) and even sporting a faux ring to the bars.

2. Breaking my camera because I dropped it on the dance floor while celebrating my "engagement" (boo. hiss)

3. The students graduating and leaving campus for the summer.

4. Saving $18 at Walgreen's because I had great coupons for beauty supply items.

5. Scoring a copy of the NEW Dave Matthews Band CD a week early.

6. Attending Sam's 3rd Birthday party last Sunday. He's so cute, he makes my heart hurt. And the Batman theme was super cute, too.
7. Going out for ice cream for the first time this summer.
It's hardly rivoting material but that's what's been up in my world. It takes me a bit to get used to my new summer routine every year so I've just been lazy.
I hope you all have a great weekend!

Thursday Thoughts

This is what I've been doing at night after work. Going on walks here: Then I've come home to make dinner, clean up the apartment and just relax. I promise I won't keep writing about leaving work at 5 pm but the first week of having a "normal" schedule again is always so refreshing.
I do have a busy weekend ahead though with graduation, a birthday party, a farewell gathering and Memorial Day. I'm really looking forward to it.
In other news, I just got this book. Hungry Girl 200 under 200. I need to try new snacks to bring to the summer festivities that are sure to happen. There seem to be a lot of good recipes. I'll let you know what I find.Last but not least, please keep my grandpa in your thoughts & prayers. He is having surgery today (from what I understand) because he fell and broke his hip yesterday. I really wish I lived closer.

I hope you are all having a good day....

Working 9-5

It's Monday and it's officially finals week here at the HC. This is good for me because I'm not really supposed to schedule meetings with students during exams so I am kind of in early summer mode. This translates to actually being able to do quiet projects at my desk without interruption. But more importantly--to leave at 5 pm like everyone else on campus. I don't have any meetings after 5 pm until September. It's glorious! I love my students and love what I do but I savor these few months of the year when I can mentally check out at 5 pm. Yay!

I had a nice weekend. It was really low key. I spent Friday night in watching TV and giving myself a manicure/pedicure (I even busted out the foot spa). It was lovely. I intended to drink some champagne (of the pink variety) but never quite got there. It's just as well because I saved some myself some calories. On Saturday I weighed in 2.6 lbs. lighter (my total now is 43 lbs). The rest of Saturday was very quiet. The weather was really humid and cloudy so I spent most of it laying around trying to avoid anything productive. I finally got around to primping so I could go out to dinner and then out to a bar to hang out with my friend Cristina. It was a good night--except for the downpour that caused my hair to frizz to the extreme. I guess you gotta take the good with the bad, right? :)
I did manage to stop by my favorite little country store to check out the new stuff. I found this really cute little tree thing. I'm not sure how I'm going to display it just yet but I really thought it would be cute with some red berries or some white lights. I'm going to play around with it still.
And I decided to finally do something with this pitcher that I picked up at a thrift store for a few dollars. Add some berries and put it on the baker's rack. Cuteness.
Sunday was nice--went to brunch with some students I supervise for the final "meeting" and then I promptly came home and watched "W" and Slumdog Millionaire while working on a craft project. Throw in some grocery shopping, a nap and a nice walk and I had a great day. I was glad for the relaxation because last night was an event we call "Breakfast of Champions" that takes place each semester (the night before Finals begin) The students come to the dining hall at 11 pm and faculty/staff volunteers serve them breakfast as a study break. It's a fun event for them and for us.
Here is a picture of the bacon that's prepared for the event. Gross, right? It makes me laugh.
So that's what my life has been for the last few days. And just think--this is only the beginning of my free time. Stay tuned to see how I'll occupy my evenings sans meetings.
Happy Monday!

No Outfit is Complete Without....

PET HAIR.
I've always been an animal lover and have grown up with many beloved family pets. This also means that I've spent a lot of time with pet hair on my clothes. I consider myself to be a fairly neat housekeeper but it's inevitable that I'll have to lint roll myself several times a day. I've found that it's a losing battle. I vacuum often but within minutes there are black tufts of hair all over the floor, or the chair, or the couch, or the bed....you get the picture.

Thankfully, I discovered the Gonzo Pet Hair Lifter. I'm convinced that this is one of the best things ever invented. It's great and really does remove hair from anything. It's only about $5 and pretty much will last for years. I just used it on my couch throw pillows and realized I needed to tell you all about it. I've had it since the summer and I use it everyday. Check it out and spread the word. Now, back to my Thursday night clean up....

Have a great night!

Another Day Closer...

Let's see...Monday and Tuesday passed in a work blur. I had two different awards ceremonies to prepare for (as in print all the certificates and programs) and then attended multiple meetings after 7 pm to wrap things up for the year with different groups I advise. Things went well and today feels a little more normal. My office is neat again and I'm planning on taking a nice long walk after work tonight. I have two more meetings tonight but nothing that I have to stress over. So that's that for Wednesday.

In all the craziness I did run to Payless to get those cute heels that I posted before. Sadly, I don't own them yet. I'm going to order them online. Don't feel too sad for me because I did leave with another pair of shoes. I enjoy the wedge. They are comfy and I think they'll look cute with a denim skirt. yay!Like I said, I've been super busy lately and it's the end of the school year so this makes me think of all I have to look forward to during the summer months when I don't have nearly as many commitments. Here are some random things that I plan on doing in the not-so-distant future.
  • Finish the Twilight series (and read all the books on my to-do list)
  • Take a nice long walk everyday/workout program
  • Scan ALL of my photo albums (it'll take all summer)
  • Move into a new apartment (and decorate it fabulously)
  • Get a tan (a red headed tan--freckles)
  • Go to see friends in various places (TBD)
  • See a DMB show
  • Plan a really fun theme party (or a few)

That's not a comprehensive list, but I'm another day closer to being able to focus on those things. I'm sure I'll come up with other fun things to add as I go.

What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

Polka Dots and Flowers

It's a REALLY busy day but I haven't really updated in awhile (except a quick one last night) so I thought I'd take a mini break to check-in in blog land.

I've been pretty crazy at work. It's the end of the semester so it's good busy. It means the students are out of here soon. I had a great weekend. It started with going to a Wine Auction/Tasting last Thursday for the Athletic Dept. It was fun and I did find a new wine that I love. Sadly, I can not remember the name so I may be on the search for this all summer. All I know was that it was yummy.

Friday was dinner and a play on campus--it was cute.

Saturday was great. A good weight watchers meeting (weigh in--not the meeting) followed by two walks, shopping and relaxing. I fell asleep early watching a movie. It was a truly lovely day. And I didn't think about anything other than being in the moment. Awesome!

Sunday was all about organizing my shoes in my closet and then going to see my mom. Another relaxing and great day.

And because some students are waiting to see me, I'm going to leave you with two items that I am currently coveting. Every post needs some pretty things to look at, right?

I love these shoes. From Payless. You could pay more, but why? ha ha. I think I'm going to be owning them in the VERY near future.

And I adore this Vera bag in Hope Garden (style is called the Gabby) Also going to be a purchase in the near future.
I hope you are all having a great Monday!

Cheers to Mom!

Happy Mother's Day to my Mom! I'm not sure if she actually reads this (or if she just hears about it from my Dad) but I wanted to give her a shout out today. I went home to the GFE this afternoon for a few hours. I'm so glad I live close enough to pop home for a short visit. It was nice to hang out for a bit.
In honor of the day, I thought I would post a "throw back" picture of my mom with her kids. 1980 was the height of fashion, wasn't it?
Thanks for everything you've done for us and and do for us now, Mom! Love you! Happy Mother's Day!

Party Hats

I can't believe it's May! The last week has been busy with end of the semester kind of meetings and all the routine stuff. I did manage to go walking with some friends a few times last week and it has been great to take that time to relax and get some exercise. My friend Jill takes this walk daily (with her dog Cedar) and until this week I had never gone. But now I understand why she loves this particular walk. I love the view! It's so calming and refreshing. Especially because the weather is so nice. Here is a picture from yesterday. I'm going to have to bring my camera to get some others pictures this week. Yesterday afternoon a bunch of us went to a birthday party for our friend, JRock (he's in the picture above). It was also the Kentucky Derby and I've always wanted to have a themed party so I could wear a hat. Well, as fate would have it, I found this cute sun hat while I was shopping yesterday morning. So I decided I would wear it to the birthday party after I added some ribbon and the bow. I thought it came out pretty good. I told JRock that I was wearing a hat to his party and he also brought some hats for others to wear. Here is Alisha and he showing off the party hats. And Jill too...
It was a fun party. Today I actually slept in and then didn't venture far from my couch. It was great to relax and get ready for another busy week. Only a few more weeks until the end of the semester...
What did you do this weekend?
